Booking The Perfect Wedding Bands

Friday, May 28th, 2010

When booking wedding bands for the evening event you want function bands that can get your guests up off their feet and dancing. Most live bands can do this for you. The big question is what type of music do you want them to play? You need to think about the genre of music you love, what type of music will appeal to guests of all ages and what will fit in with the theme of the wedding day.

The most popular choice is that of pop and rock stretching from the sixties through to the here and now. Whether live bands play The Beatles or other popular songs from pop history, they are guaranteed to be a hit as most people will be familiar with them and they are great dance floor fillers. Function bands will normally have as a minimum of rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass guitar and of course drums.

The next top choice is funk and soul. You’ll find these live bands are bigger than the standard party bands and will have keyboards and possibly brass and sax. There will be a mix of female and male vocals and you will be guaranteed to get your wedding party off to a flying start.

However you may want to mix up the music genres so talk to your function bands at length to ensure they have that flexibility.

At London Soul we are a larger party band with a wide repertoire of music to offer and experienced at all types of events from wedding to corporate functions.

Types Of Corporate Event Entertainment

At a corporate event, the grand finale is often made by choosing function bands who will get the party atmosphere going and make sure your guests feel well looked after and leave the event on a high. Party bands provide the show element to any event and are essential when it comes to getting people up off their chairs and onto the dance floor. Function bands can be made even more spectacular by incorporating light shows and pyrotechnic displays, depending on the budget.

In addition to big party bands you may also want to include circulating entertainment for guests that remain seated. This may include comedians or magicians for example. They can help guests to break the ice and are particularly effective when the guests have just been seated to get conversation flowing.

Dancers can be used to encourage guests to get up onto the dance floor either by choosing guests from the sidelines or offering your guests mini classes to the live band music. This can work well with party bands that play big band music, Rat Pack genre and Latino music but will complement other forms of music such as rock and soul.

The choice of music can definitely make or break your corporate event but it is important to understand what the goal of the entertainment is before you choose. You obviously want to keep your guests occupied and stimulate interaction as well as making the evening memorable.

At London Soul we offer a great range of music and have years of experience heading up corporate events.

Planning Your Corporate Event

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

If you are in the process of choosing entertainment or live bands for your corporate event there are some key points to consider:

Will you want to have party bands as the main feature for the evening or simply background music for the event?

Will you need to have separate types of music for the beginning of the evening and then later on in the evening, for example a cocktail pianist as background for reception drinks and live bands for dancing?

Is the main goal of the evening to entertain your guests or do you want to encourage business discussion and networking?

How old are your guests?

Will the event take place in one room or will you need live bands that can move from one location to another?

When choosing function bands you need to ensure that they are well qualified and experienced to do the job. You probably want to impress your guests with an atmosphere of class and sophistication so make sure the live bands come dressed appropriately, particularly if you are having a reception, dinner and speeches.

If the event is a company party you will be keen to get everyone dancing. In this case you want a big band to do the job and create a party atmosphere. Party bands have experience in delivering music you can dance to and are expert in getting the crowd off their seats and onto the dance floor. Good live bands will have a wide ranging repertoire which will appeal to all age ranges.

At London Soul we have an exciting range of music to choose from and can guarantee to deliver a night to remember.

Go Professional When Choosing Wedding Bands

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

You may have attended several weddings where hand-in-hand with the cheesy DJ playing back to back 70’s and 80’s disco, there are live bands on the entertainment line up. However these may not be the slick, professional party bands that you would wish and hope for. Often these wedding bands are a dishevelled collection of amateur players who would look better suited playing at the local pub on a Saturday night.

That’s not to say all amateur wedding bands and semi-professional function bands are devoid of the professionalism that is required for such a special event but you could be taking a risk that a significant part of your evening party may become dominated by a group of players who have perhaps limited ability and a limited repertoire of music to play.

Choosing wedding bands that are fully experienced in this type of event will ensure that your guests are entertained for all the right reasons. Amateur live bands often have a limited scope of music they can play. At weddings you have a range of guests from several generations, from grandparents to newest arrivals and you need wedding bands that are capable of catering to these diverse needs. Your wedding band lead vocalist will also be crucial in gaining rapport with your guests and encouraging them onto the dance floor. They will also be pivotal in highlighting key times in the evening like the first dance for the bride and groom.

At London Soul we are a big band with plenty of experience in making wedding days special with a wide range of music.

The Acoustic Touch

When it comes to creating the perfect ambience at your wedding reception, live bands can ensure you get the tone just right and make the day all the more special. You may think about choosing function bands that can play acoustic instruments for this part of the event. A string quartet often focuses on more classical music so if you want a popular music choice then you’ll need to be specific. You can request adaptations of popular soul, pop and jazz numbers. If you are choosing wedding bands that can stay for the whole event and late into the evening you need to ensure they are able to adapt from the low key, acoustic feel of the reception to the party atmosphere of the evening event.

There are some great advantages to choosing live bands who can play acoustic instruments. There is no need to set them up with a power supply and they are able to move around quickly and easily should you be changing location. This may apply if they are playing throughout the wedding ceremony also. If you want wedding bands to play outside they will still require some adequate covering even when the weather is fine.

You needn’t worry about the music being too quiet. Acoustic instruments will make a reasonable level of noise but will be low enough to allow conversation. They will be unobtrusive whilst creating an ambient musical backdrop.

At London Soul we are an experienced live band who specialise in soul, rock and pop music. We have years of expertise in making wedding days memorable and special events.
